What is zkSync?
Developed by Mattar Labs in 2019, zkSync is a Layer-2 Ethereum scaling solution utilising zero-knowledge rollup technology to enable faster, cheaper transactions on-chain while harnessing the security of Ethereum network.
While Layer-2 blockchains are no stranger to the DeFi ecosystem, zkSync made headlines in recent months preceding its launch due to ongoing speculation on Crypto Twitter of a token airdrop — a precedent set up by other Layer-2s like Arbitrum which conducted a USD $120 million airdrop — causing a surge in on-chain activity.
The network’s EVM compatibility further makes it easier for developers to shift their EVM compatible dApps onto zkSync era to enjoy the benefits of lower fees and faster transactions.
